About Me
Hi my name is Carl,
I have been fishing for over 36 years and have caught fish all over the world.
My main types of fishing are Fly, Coarse and Sea with rod and line of some fashion, but I have done many others like spear, spear gun, cast net, coracle and hand (yes just putting my hands in a river and pulling out trout…I will show you that later).
I have a crazy passion for fishing, and my wife tells me its ‘all consuming’ (no Idea what she is talking about!), and I pretty much think of nothing else, day or night! As you can imagine, with 36 years experience I have made many mistakes and learned huge amounts by trial and error. If you have any stumbling blocks with fishing Just Ask, as I will have had the same stumbling blocks, but I will also be able to give you a solution!
Also, I have developed a method of fishing which has NEVER FAILED to catch me a fish, I am not pulling your leg, I genuinely catch fish when others don’t, whether that be on a boat sea fishing, fly fishing competitions, in a chalk stream, pole fishing on a local reservoir or hand fishing. I will share that technique later.
I am keen to go fishing in any weather, country or place, and my first love is fly fishing. I was taught to fly fish at the age of 5, I used a bamboo or cane rod that my Grandad made for me. I loved going fishing with him, it was always a very exciting time, we would get up early travel in the dark, see the sun rise, go out on a boat and sit for countless hours. We would be listening to the wild life and taking in the beautiful scenery (usually the Lake District) and the vast majority of the time catch lots of fish, we would always have one for our dinner on an log fire that Grandad made. Let me tell you, I have eaten at the best fish restaurants in the world and nothing compares to my Grandad cooking fresh trout over a pine wood charcoal fire!
Why do I love fishing and in particular, fly fishing so much, well in terms of fly fishing, I love the very different facets of the sport that can be mastered, each has its own unique challenges and techniques. There is the casting of the line, then the tying of the fly and of course the playing of the fish. There is also the satisfaction of the very primeval urge to hunt, which we all undoubtedly have.
So for now I will start with taking you on some of my up and coming trips, the unique thing here is that you can tell me what you are struggling with and I will show you, whether that’s me explaining or actually showing you how to do it.
Best of hunting
Carl
